Cork Indie Legends, (Michael Carr - Cork's 96fm) Spacecake were first formed 20 years ago. As a bunch of fearless teenagers, they graced the stage with legendary Cork acts like The Frank and Walters and Sultans of Ping.
There were many memorable gigs and they were lucky enough to thread the boards of famous Cork venues like The Village, Sir Henry's and The Cork City Hall. But, teenage kicks eventually took their toll and the band started pulling in different directions. People left to pursue individual projects like, learning their instruments, finding jobs and places to live. Now, after a 17 year sabbatical, Spacecake have reformed to record some songs and play some gigs.
Spacecake first ventured out of the band room in August 2010 to hit the studio. Three tracks were recorded and there was a feeling in the band that there was potential there to explore. The myspace thing exploded for the band and the have frequently topped the Irish download charts. Endless local radio play and positive feedback from live shows has pushed the band to record and release their debut effort, The Spacecake EP. The sound has a decisively modern texture and could be described as an infusion of classical indie guitar riffs and pure pop melodies. EP release and tour dates are TBA for May 2011. The band continue to write and record and refine the live offering and are ready to be let loose on the global public again.
